EasyDECON® 200 IAQD
REMEDIATION PROTOCOL

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION:

In situ testing has shown EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to be the most effective solution for environmental decontamination, disinfection and deodorization. EasyDECON® 200 IAQD nearly eliminates allergic responses, respiratory and other IAQ related health problems in children and adults.  Laboratory tests, along with several case studies have proven EasyDECON® 200 IAQD neutralizes mold, mildew, mycotoxins, VOC’s, allergens, virus, bacteria, odors, and toxic industrial chemicals, including methamphetamine residual toxins, while also affecting bed bugs, mites, spiders and cockroaches.  EasyDECON® 200 IAQD is non-toxic, non-corrosive and biodegradable.  EasyDECON® 200 IAQD is licensed, patented and EPA registered.

.

EasyDECON® 200 IAQD can be applied in a variety of application systems and methods.

Application methods can have various advantages in a variety of projects. Applying EasyDECON® 200 IAQD as a fog is the preferred method of application. Fogging EasyDECON® 200 IAQD as an aerosol with particulate sizes ranging from 5-50 microns and can be deployed through commercially available fog generating devices.

Methods such as sprays, mists and fogs can be utilized with EasyDECON® 200 IAQD and are proven to be effective forms of decontamination. The objective of these various methods will be to minimize the quantity of solution that is required to be used in the restoration of controlled environments (such as indoor facilities) and to facilitate access of the formulation to the contaminant.  EasyDECON®ä 200 IAQD is the only product on the market that effectively splits spores, rendering those dead, while the fogging methodology effectively eliminates hard to reach areas.

Commercial sprayers such as hand pumped insect sprayers generate a controlled swath and can

be directed to achieve contact with the contaminant under base boards or molding. This type of

application device is a low cost, but effective method of application.

The main objective during remediation is to allow EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to come

in contact and wet out the contaminant. EasyDECON® 200 IAQD must remain in contact and

remain wet for the required dwell time. Once complete, studies have demonstrated that the contaminate is destroyed along with the toxic and odorous affects.

When should a respirator be used?

Workers should use respirators for protection from contaminants in the air while fogging machines are being used, and when emergencies or other temporary situations arise.  This is especially true when treating homes with known mycotoxin contamination, mold contamination, petroleum contamination, or bacterial and viral contamination.

What type of respirator should be used?

Air-purifying respirators (APRs): quarter-mask (covering the nose and mouth) with goggles is enough in most situations.  The type of respirator used should be determined by the type of clean up work on the project.

Precautions: Workers with beards, long sideburns, or even a two-day stubble may not have full protection because the hair breaks the seal between the skin and the respirator mask. This means that the respirator mask will "leak" and will not provide the needed respiratory protection. Also, if a worker has facial scars or an acne problem, the facial skin may not be able to form a good seal with a respirator mask.

*Note: reusable respirators need to be thoroughly cleaned with water after each use.

INSPECTION / PRE-TREATMENT

Prior to starting the job, a pre-project inspection of the job site is imperative to ensure conditions remain the same at the time of testing as they do at the time of job start and finish. Has the source of contamination been localized, contained identified and resolved?   Is there a second or third source that may have gone unnoticed on initial examination and could eventually cause failed clearance? Are the ducts attached and in good enough shape to clean and fog? Has all compromised materials and furnishings been removed and disposed of in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations?

REMEDIATION

During the decontamination process, the occupants must vacate the treatment area until such time that the remediator has ventilated the area with an outside air source, and given re-entry clearance.  In some instances, dust barriers will be erected in doorways or other protected areas to prevent the spread of dust and make clean up easier. Items in the immediate area should be protected and covered as common sense dictates. (*See Damage Prevention) If highly infected, contaminated or structurally compromised; all porous materials such as drywall, insulation, furnishings, draperies etc, should be removed, bagged and disposed of.  Physical growth or staining on remaining structures should be scrubbed, brushed or sanded to remove unsightly dead mold.  Be sure that any porous material remaining are decontaminated and/or structurally sound.

APPLICATION

Remove dust barriers.  Any sensitive items or surfaces that may be affected negatively by the product should be wiped down and covered.  Mix EasyDECON® 200 IAQD according to manufacturer’s instruction. Note: the applicator must test the Fortifier to ensure product efficacy.  Apply EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to the interior of the building in the following order:

  1. Furnishings and infested materials should be sprayed and fogged prior to HVAC and indoor air. (see below)
  2. Mattress/Linens decontamination: Strip mattress of bedding linens and apply EasyDECON® 200 IAQD as a light mist with a pesticide sprayer to the entire mattress, opening seams, tufts, and folds to allow the chemical to penetrate into these hiding areas.  If possible to access the inner mattress fog both the inner mattress and box spring for several minutes allowing the fog to penetrate the entire inner core of the mattress.  Be sure to spray the entire bed frame as well.   EasyDECON® 200 IAQD should be applied to all bedding and linens during the fogging and spraying process.  These items should then laundered using Laundry Clean , after the recommended dwell time has passed.  In cases of severe infestation it may be necessary to dispose of the entire bed and linens.
  3. HVAC System - Apply EasyDECON® 200 IAQD fog directly into the air return while the system is in fan only operation. Inspect each register in every room for visible fog. Discontinue

the process and turn the HVAC system off when visible fog is coming from each register.

  1. Apply EasyDECON® 200 IAQD into the attic, crawl spaces, elevator shafts and any other part of the dwelling not easily accessible.
  1. Apply EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to all offices, rooms, living or working areas. Ensure enough of the product has been disseminated throughout all of the affected rooms.  A good rule of thumb for complete coverage is once applied it should be extremely difficult to see the opposite side of the room in normal daylight.
  1. Allow EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to swell in the affected area for one hour.
  2. Repeat steps 1 through 4 after one hour of dwell time for more severe contamination or area infections.
  3. After the second application and allowing EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to dwell for another one hour; the serviced area is ready for post testing.
  4. Air sampling can be completed after the dwell time has expired for the second application or completed the next day.
  1. Once post testing is complete, ventilate the area by opening all windows and doors; disinfect all surfaces with a damp rag or sponge using fresh water. Rinse the rag or sponge and change the rinse water often.
  2. BED BUGS *After the mattress is vacuumed or scrubbed, it can be enclosed in a zippered mattress cover. Any bed bugs remaining on the mattress will be trapped inside the cover. Leave the cover in place for a year or so since bed bugs can live for a long time without a blood meal. Fogging of the mattress with EasyDECON® 200 IAQD while contained in the mattress cover is recommended.  In the case of sever infestation the mattress may need to be discarded.

DAMAGE PREVENTION

EasyDECON® 200 IAQD is a powerful disinfectant that needs to be applied safely and handled with care.  EasyDECON® 200 IAQD will not damage or stain most fabrics and is safe to use on most surfaces.  It will not damage painted metal surfaces, but can cause mild oxidation of unpainted metal surfaces such as iron or non-stainless steel. EasyDECON® 200 IAQD oxidative nature can dull fine finished wood surfaces if after prolong exposure (3-6 hours). To prevent damage standard precautions should be taken.

                1. Wipe down and cover horizontal finished wood surfaces such as sensitive furniture, tables and desks.

                2. In the event hardwood floors are present, damp mop all hardwood floors after one hour exposure time has elapsed.

                3. Cover openings that would expose electrical components directly to the fog. Televisions, computer monitors and stereo components should be protected.

                4. Remove or cover any artwork, photographs, paperwork or other sensitive objects.

                5. Do not allow EasyDECON® 200 IAQD to rest past one hour on finished granite surfaces.

                6. Remove residue with a damp rag or sponge.

*If shampooing or steam cleaning fabric furniture and carpets is desired after treatment, add de-foamer to the dirty water reservoir to avoid excess foaming.
